Watch: Ryan Wonders How Bump Stocks Got Through Regulatory Process

Shortly after Reps. Seth Moulton and Carlos Curbelo introduced a bipartisan bill to ban the manufacture, sale and possession of bump stocks, Speaker Paul D. Ryan said his focus was on figuring out how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allowed for sale of these devices “in the first place.”

Republicans are getting used to surprises. “We rejected the top two. The other top two got beat a year ago. I mean, where’s Eric Cantor? He’s gone," Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp reminded reporters outside the House chamber on Thursday afternoon. "That’s basically three people in the top level that are gone in 14 months or so. That speaks to how quickly things can change."  

And now that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has taken himself out of the running for speaker , should the conference expect any more bombshells from McCarthy?  

Obama Calls Cantor After Day of Immigration Sparring

Updated 6:05 p.m.  | President Barack Obama called House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Wednesday to implore House Republicans to hold a vote on the Senate-passed  immigration overhaul, prompting Cantor to say the president hasn't learned how to work with Congress.  

The Virginia Republican's retort came in the form of a statement on a day of nasty back and forth between the president, Democrats and House GOP leadership over immigration legislation.
